Aging and the Arts

Join us at the Health Sciences Innovation Building to learn about awe as it interacts with grief. This workshop will be held in conjunction with The Learning Community for Loss, Grief and Transition. Together we will focus on how we can use awe to ground ourselves and create a project designed to engage our sense of touch.

In this workshop, we will talk about how awe walking can be used to help process grief. We will then take a walk around the health sciences campus and create a texture collage as a way to further ground ourselves in the present moment and introduce a potential tool.

The Health Sciences Innovations Building is located at 1670 E Drachman Street, Tucson, AZ 85721. We will be in room 531 and parking can be found in the adjacent lot.

This event is free, and all materials required for the workshop will be provided free of charge. The workshops are open to all artistic skill levels, and no preparation is necessary to participate.

About Creative Encounters in Awe Walking:

Creative Encounters in Awe Walking gives students and community members tools to encounter and share moments of awe in and across our communities. The goal is to promote awe walking as an accessible and affordable wellness practice across the lifespan. This is in response to recent neuroscience research that has associated positive health benefits with taking short walks while looking for things that inspire awe. The Creative Encounters in Awe Walking Workshop Series is run by Dr. Jennie Gubner and her Ph.D. student Sydney Streightiff and explores how creativity can be used as a tool to enhance and encourage awe-walking practices in your daily life.

These workshops are being presented in collaboration with community partners from the Tucson area, including the University of Arizona Art Museum, The Ignite Museum, the University of Arizona Arboretum, and the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine.
